About Cypress Edge

Located in tranquil Bungaree approximately 17kms east of Ballarat, Cypress Edge was originally established in Miners Rest in 2005. After first being introduced to the Square Meater breed at the “Beef Expo” in Elmore 2005, I was instantly impressed with the breeds potential and set about to find out more.

By the end of 2005 I had purchased 15 registered Square Meater heifers and 1 registered bull from a N.S.W stud and another bull from a Victorian stud to provide a wider genetic base for my foundation herd. Our main foundation bull Thurloo Park Pecar, was awarded Reserve Senior Champion at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2005.

He has also been tested with impressive results of for marbling, for tenderness and for feed efficiency.

At Cypress Edge we are also undertaking a commercial venture cross breeding Square Meaters with different breeds to produce the ultimate beef carcase for the domestic market in the shortest time frame. Comprehensive data recording is an intricate part of this venture thus allowing us to be objective and prioritize our management decisions.
